 We offer full service for individuals as well as for larger groups.

Since a fixed itinerary might not fit everyone, we try to be flexible and provide any itinerary on request based on everyone’s interest. The following itinerary exemplifies a typical trekking holiday.

Two day trek

 

 Day 1: Drive from Gondar to the small town Debark (101 km from Gondar), the gateway to the Simien Mountains. This will take about 3 hours  drive by Car. At Debark - where the headquarters of the park are located – we will complete the entrance formalities and will be lead to the park after we pick the local guide and scout . After parking for about an hour at  Debark you will drive one more additional hour into the park where you will begin your trek .You will then trek to Sankaber (the first camp which takes about 2 hours to reach), enjoy the amazing views, make a campfire and sleep at a campsite close to Sankaber (an altitude of 3250m). If you would like to spend the night in a very good comfort you can stay at the luxurious Simien Park Lodge.

 

 Day 2:There will be an  option to have a short morning trek and then drive back to Gondar.

 

Five day trek

 

 Day 1: Drive from Gondar to the small town Debark (101 km from Gondar), the gateway to the Simien Mountains. This will take about 3 hours by Car. At Debark - where the headquarters of the park are located – we will complete the entrance formalities and will lead to the park after we pick the local guide and scout . After parking for about an hour at  Debark you will drive one more additional hour into the park where you will begin your trek .You will then trek to Sankaber (the first camp which takes about 2 hours to reach), enjoy the amazing views, make a campfire and sleep at a campsite close to Sankaber (an altitude of 3250m). If you would like to spend the night in a very good comfort you can stay at the luxurious Simien Park Lodge.

 

 Day 2: Today you trek to Geech Camp (the second camp). You will pass through farming areas and the beautiful Geech village . During the 5-6 hour trek there will be the possibility to spot the endemic Gelada baboons (the heart bleeding monkeys ) closely, Klipspringers (a small mountain antelope),the Menelik Bushbacks and many interesting flora species. In addition to these, you will also see the Jinbar waterfall which flows over a 500 meter cliff. Eventually we will hike to  Geech which is a bit gentle and takes about 2 hours. Camp at Geech (3600m).

 

Day 3: Today you will use Geech camp as your base. You will then walk up to the summit of Imet gogo (3926m), a high rocky outcrop on the edge of the escarpment to the east of the camp with spectacular views north and east across the foot hills and plains. On the way to Imetgogo you will walk through fields of the endemic Giant Lobelia plants,a flower which can grow up to 10 meters. Then you walk back to Saha to see the other side of Imetgogo. You are likely to see Klipspringers, Walia Ibex (a wild goat, endemic to the Simiens), and many spectacular birds including the Lammergeyer. Total trekking time is 4-5 hours giving time to relax, absorb the scenery and help with acclimatization in the afternoon.

 

  Day 4: Today you will hike back to Sankaber along the same route taken to Geech (about 5 hours). Overnight stay at the campsite.

 

  Day 5: Drive back to Gondar, which takes approximately 4 hours. Overnight stay in Gondar.

 

6 Day trek

 Day 4: From Geech you will walk first southwards and then east to follow the crest of a broad ridge. Today's trek offers some of the most spectacular views of the whole trek. The views in all directions are dramatic and ever changing as the sun moves through the day. After a 3-4 hour morning trek you will have your lunch break at the head of the Inatey valley (4070m) before continuing along of the Belegez valley to our final destination of the day - the camp at Chennek.  From Chennek you can see over the escarpment edge and across the foothills. This is a good place to spot Walia Ibex and more Gelada baboons. Total trekking time for the day is 8-9 hours.

 

 

Day 5: Today you will climb up the second highest peak of the Simiens - Bwahit mountain at 4430m. The route takes you into the cooler highlands. It is a relatively gentle climb but can still be challenging due to the altitude. You will then return to Chennek where you will spend your second night.

 

Day 6: A little hiking around Chennek and then drive back to Gondar, which takes 6 hours. Overnight stay in Gondar.

 

8 Day trek

 Day 5: Today you climb halfway up Bwahit (4430m), the second highest peak in Ethiopia and then go down to Arkwasiye village. From here we walk to the Sona Campsite. At Sona there are again amazing views, this time over to escarpment you walked along a few days earlier. This is the last time that you are in the high Simien before heading down to the lowlands. Total trekking time is 9 hours.

 

 

 Day 6: Today's trek involves an overall descent of1200m. The initial section is a steep downhill, after which it becomes undulating. You will feel it getting much hotter and after 3 hours you will have lunch at a riverside spot under a massive fig tree with the opportunity to have coffee from the locals and buy local handicrafts. After lunch it is a 90 minute walk to our campsite at Mekarbiya. The rest of the day is free for relaxation. Alternatively you can visit the local school and buy local souvenirs. Mekarbiya camp is at 2065m.

 

Day 7: Today you walk to Mulit (2100m) and depending on the season can stop by a beautiful cool lagoon, providing the daring ones with an opportunity to swim. After lunch there is a step relatively short climb, which is often hot, but at the top there is local cafe with refreshments. Total trekking time is 4-5 hours. As tonight is the last night and we are out of the national park, we can have a little party with singing and dancing - both Ethiopian and any contributions that you may have. There will also be a chance to try the local beer known as  'tella' which fermented barley.

 

 Day 8: A short walk in the morning along a forested ridge and then through cultivated land takes you to the town of Adiarkay where you meet the main road and a car will be waiting to collect you. The car can  take you either back to Gondar (6 hours) or further on to Axum (7 hours).

 

10 Day trek 

 

  By the time you arrive at Atse-Tewodros terminal at Gondar, you will be picked up and you will  be transferred to your hotel. Later on after relaxing a bit, you will have the choice of first visiting Gondar and its beautiful castles or drive straight to the Simien Mountains.

 Day 5: Overlooking Chennek at  Bwahit mountain at 4430m - the second highest peak in Ethiopia. The route from Chennek takes you up on Bwahit's northern shoulder. If you have the energy, you can reach the peak. From here you can see in the distance Ras Dejen at 4543m, the highest mountain in Ethiopia. Coming down from Bwahit we pass through the town of Chiroleba, which feels very busy after the last few days in the mountains. Continuing on we cross the Mesheha river before a gentle climb to the Ambiko campsite which is situated next the village church. Ambiko is at 3200m and total trekking time is 10-11 hours.

 

 Day 6: Today you climb Ras Dejen. You begin very early and walk through the main valley before sunrise and then start the steep climb. On the way, keep an eye open for Giant Lobelia. After some hours of trekking we will enter a huge semi-circular basin of rocky peaks – Ras Dejen. The last section before the peak is a scramble and you are rewarded with a very fine viewpoint from 4543m. We will spend the rest of the day hiking back to Ambiko camp. Total walking time is approx. 11-14 hours.

 

Day 7: The trek today takes you to Sona. You first move up a valley that provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. First we descend back down to the river and after a short, but steep climb we begin to gradually walk up the valley. We stop for lunch at a place where we can see the cultivated lands and then continue up the picturesque valley passing through many mountain hamlets. The majority of the local populations in the Simien Mountains are Amhara. Spectacular views are found at the camping place. (Total trekking time more or less 10 hours).
